1. Product Core Introduction

SX440-Red is a half-wave phase-controlled thyristor automatic voltage regulator, matched for brushless generator excitation systems.

Equipped with under-speed protection and sensing loss protection to guarantee safe and stable generator operation. Adopting full SMT surface mount technology for high integration and tiny installation size. High-performance semiconductor devices are used inside the power circuit to realize reliable auto voltage build-up relying on generator residual magnetism.

Separate terminals are designed for voltage sensing and excitation power supply. It can draw power from main stator windings directly; auxiliary winding access is optional if strong continuous short-circuit resistance is required. It connects main stator and field windings to form closed-loop voltage control, with load regulation accuracy superior to ±1%.

2. Complete Step-by-step Debugging Guide

2.1 Low Frequency Under-speed Protection Setting

  1. Confirm the frequency selection jumper is set to correct position.
  2. Start the generator and adjust rotating speed to target protection value.
  3. Slowly turn U/F trimmer clockwise until the red protection LED lights up.

    Factory default protection threshold: 40Hz for 50Hz units, 55Hz for 60Hz units.

2.2 Voltage Calibration (Built-in Trimmer & External VR Optional)

  • Two adjustment modes: VOLT trimmer on AVR panel, or external VR resistor between terminal 1 and 2.
  • External wiring rule: Install 1kΩ resistor across terminal 1 & 2 for external regulation; short-circuit terminal 1 & 2 if external VR is not needed.
  • Operation steps before startup: Turn built-in VOLT trimmer fully counterclockwise, set external VR to middle position. Start genset and stabilize speed, adjust VOLT or external VR to reach rated voltage.
  • Stability fine-tuning: If output voltage fluctuates, rotate STAB trimmer slowly to stabilize voltage. Test X & XX terminal voltage with analog voltmeter; the minimal jitter point is the optimal STAB position. Too large STAB value causes voltage oscillation, too small leads to obvious voltage drop under heavy load.

2.3 Reactive Power DROOP Adjustment

Connect CT secondary S1 & S2 terminals for voltage drop compensation under loaded operation. When CT secondary outputs 1A current with PF 0.8, DROOP trimmer can compensate 0~5% of rated voltage.

2.4 Voltage TRIM Correction

Connect VAR/PF controller signal to A1 & A2 terminals for remote voltage trimming. Clockwise TRIM rotation for maximum correction range, counterclockwise for minimum range.

3. Generator Remagnetization Operation Guide

Scenario

New unit startup, disappeared residual magnetism, reversed X/XX field wiring: residual voltage lower than 3.2V AC cannot trigger auto voltage build-up.

Operation Steps

  1. Shut down generator and disconnect X & XX field wiring.
  2. Prepare 3~12V DC power supply. Connect DC positive pole to terminal X, connect negative pole to XX with current limiting resistor, keep power-on within 3 seconds.
  3. Disconnect DC power on SX440, restart generator at rated speed and test residual voltage of generator output.
  4. If residual voltage exceeds 3.2V AC, stop unit and recover original SX440 wiring; repeat magnetizing operation if voltage is still insufficient.

Important Warning

Over-magnetizing will burn AVR and generator field coils; low-voltage, low-current DC power supply is recommended.
